This one-of-a-kind probe provides the benefits of a closed-end soil probe but also features a hinged jaw that opens for easy access to the entire soil core - just like an open-ended soil probe! Ideal for composite sampling or field extraction of representative cores for later analysis by a soil lab. A foot step enables you to quickly drive the probe into the ground, and the 10˝ handle features grips for maximum comfort. Nickel-plated and constructed of heavy-duty 0.109w DOM steel.

Can this probe be twisted to work it into the soil, or is that likely to damage it?
The AMS Gator Probe, item number 77829, is not designed to be twisted into the soil. The shaft and tip are built for straight downward pressure. Twisting can bend the probe or loosen the tip connection, especially in compacted or rocky soil. The safest method is to push it straight down and work it in with steady downward pressure only.
