Yes. A 10-factor prism is a solid choice for mature hardwood stands in southeastern Indiana. The Jim-Gem prism in BAF 10 (Item #59026) is a common all-around setup for Eastern hardwoods and usually gives a manageable count at typical basal areas. With BAF 10, each in tree represents about 10 square feet of basal area per acre. If you find your counts running too high in denser patches, move to BAF 20 to speed things up. If the stand is more open or has smaller stems, BAF 5 will pull in more trees and improve precision.

Calculation made using a 10 BAF prism will be in square feet per acre.
