I use this for splitting stakes, limbing, chopping out trees too big for my sapling puller, cutting up frozen fish to feed my dogs, and even in the kitchen to break open hard winter squash. Its more expensive than the import axe at my local hardware store, but that brand got bad reviews. A great all around tool.

Great full length smaller axe. I bought this axe specifically for our Boy Scout troop, and it;s the right size for everyone in the troop. The lower weight head helps with fatigue and cuts almost as well as a larger 4 pounder.

What hardness is this axe tempered to, and how far from the edge? What hardness is this axe tempered to, and how far from the edge?
The axe head is made from 1080 steel. The cutting edge is heat-treated to approximately Rockwell 60 to 65 to provide good edge retention, while the remainder of the head is left softer for toughness and shock resistance. The hardened zone extends roughly 1-1/2 to 2 inches back from the cutting edge.
