Midwest Geosciences USCS Soil Calibration Kit
This comprehensive kit will help you learn how to classify soil accurately, efficiently, and with reproducible results. Included are 5 soil samples (200+ ml each) that are calibrated using the Unified Soil Classification System and USDA textural classification. With these samples you’ll feel the contrast between Silt (ML), Lean Clay (CL), and Fat Clay (CH). Also learn to differentiate Well Graded Sand (SW) from Poorly Graded Sand (SP). In addition to the soil samples, the kit includes a Lab Summary Sheet showing particle size curve data and Atterberg Limits; a Sample Summary that includes a description of the source and preparation for each sample; a USDA triangle showing textural results; a Field Guide for Soil and Stratigraphic Analysis; a USDA Soil Texturing Field Flow Chart; plastic jar containers with lids and labels; an exercise sheet for USCS classification; an exercise sheet for USDA textures; and three double-sided laminated field sheets of helpful hints.
